The 70-year-old was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year during a routine examination. Wood says they discovered, “a supernova burning away on my left lung.” His answer was just to get it out ASAP since the cancer hadn’t spread to his lymph nodes yet.
Wood smoked for over 50 years and was a prime candidate to get “lifestyle cancer” being in all band – the proverbial hard living rock band …The Rolling Stones.
The guitarist who is healthy now told the Mail on Sunday that chemo was not an option. Sure he knew it could help but, “It’s more I wasn’t going to lose my hair. This hair wasn’t going anywhere. I said, ‘No way.’ In the end, after waiting a week he found out that everything turned out OK. It was out and he was OK.
Years ago my old buddy Steve Burgess interviewed late great sax player Earl Seymour. On meeting him Steve complimented his hair only to have Seymour respond, “It’s not hair..it’s a “Love Sculpture.” Rock stars and their hair, huh?
Wood now claims he has a powerful guardian angel tweeting, “feeling great and ready to see you on the road next month.”
